MARYSVILLE — A garage fire was quickly extinguished in the afternoon of Sept. 2 by Marysville Fire District personnel.
TULALIP — A 25-year-old Marysville man was booked into Snohomish County Jail Sept. 1 on suspicion of first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree assault in connection with a home invasion robbery that happened the morning of Aug. 23 in the 8400 block of 27th Ave. NE on the Tulalip reservation.
MARYSVILLE — In the midst of negotiations Sept. 1 and 2 between Coca-Cola and 500 of its western Washington employees, including those at the company’s Marysville plant, the company confirmed that its Marysville plant will be closing Sept. 17.
As students arrived for orientation Aug. 24, construction crews continued to prepare Marysville Getchell High School for its first day of school Sept. 7.
According to Marysville School District Capital Facilities Director John Bingham, the vast majority of the work is already done, and the biggest task left is simply relocation.
Kaitlyn Toomey and her mom, Candy, became homeless when Kaitlyn was in the sixth grade.
“Technically, I still am,” said Kaitlyn, now 14, who’s living in Arlington. “I still wanted to help out other kids.”
MARYSVILLE — Last year’s Scrub-a-Mutt fundraiser at the Strawberry Fields Park washed a total of 77 dogs for various animal charities.
This year, the third annual event took up many of the activities from this year’s cancelled Poochapalooza and washed more than 260 dogs Aug. 21, collecting more than $4,000 that day alone.
MARYSVILLE — Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring and City Council members joined with Marysville Care Center workers and residents to cut the ribbon dedicating a new outdoor mobility park at the center on Aug. 25.
SEATTLE — The 500 western Washington Coca-Cola employees who went on strike at 5 p.m., Aug 23, which includes 37 workers in Marysville, have agreed to return to work unconditionally, as part of “a goodwill gesture that demonstrates their willingness to bargain a fair and equitable contract in good faith,” according to a statement issued by Teamsters Local 117.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Fire District recognized the years of service of currently serving members and retirees alike during an Aug. 18 awards ceremony.
The Marysville Fire District Board of Directors joined the fire district members’ peers and family members in honoring them for completing five, 10, 20 and 25 years of service. Four district members who retired this year were also praised for their decades of service.
EVERETT — A Marysville man was among two individuals injured in a four-car collision on Interstate 5 Saturday, Aug. 28.
The 21-year-old man was driving northbound at approximately 3 p.m. when his Chevrolet Trailblazer collided with a second Trailblazer being driven by a 41-year-old Lake Stevens woman.
EVERETT — A Marysville man was among two individuals injured in a four-car collision on Interstate 5 Saturday, Aug. 28.
The 21-year-old man was driving northbound at approximately 3 p.m. near milepost 193 when his Chevrolet Trailblazer collided with a second Trailblazer being driven by a 41-year-old Lake Stevens woman.
The woman’s vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder of I-5. The man’s SUV then collided with a third vehicle, which struck a fourth vehicle.
MARYSVILLE — Drivers headed north on State Route 529 to Marysville should allow some extra time for their trips or plan to take alternate routes on the evenings of Aug. 30 through Sept. 2.
Washington State Patrol troopers responded Aug. 27 at approximately 11:20 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of I-5 at Mile Post 204 near Marysville. One of the vehicles was pulling a horse trailer with one horse inside.
MARYSVILLE — Ken Cage wants people to bury the “u” that many try to put in Asbery Field.
Search for Marysville’s Asbery Field online, and you might find sites listing it as “Asbury Field.”
Cage, the president of the Marysville Historical Society, wants Marysville residents to know from which family the field just south of Totem Middle School got its name.
