Lakewood forward Billy Rist scored a season-high 30 points against Sultan, but the Cougars failed to repeat their earlier season success against the conference rivals, falling 68-55 at home.

Lakewood forward Billy Rist scored a season-high 30 points against Sultan, but the Cougars failed to repeat their earlier season success against the conference rivals, falling 68-55 at home.
The Cougars suffered a season-ending injury to senior forward Michael Mauer and veteran guard Terrence Ordonez played limited minutes with an air cast to support a sprained left ankle.
Lakewood defeated Sultan in a closely contested overtime match earlier this season, but the late-season woes and hot shooting proved too much for a young Lakewood team in the Jan. 25 game. Sultan outscored Lakewood 24-10 in the first quarter, and the home team failed to overcome the deficit the rest of the game.
Ryan Lawson had 10 points and sophomore Nathan Hesselman had seven in the effort, while Sultan was led by Jordan Nicholes with 32 points.
Lakewood faced Cedarcrest Jan. 29 after The Globe went to press, with games against conference rivals Kings and Granite Falls Feb. 1 and Feb. 5.
