MARYSVILLE – Marysville Getchell was riding high after an upset over Arlington last week, but Marysville-Pilchuck put them in their place with a 33-3 romp Friday night in the Berry Bowl.

MG had a little success early stopping the powerful M-P running attack, but it kept giving up the big play.

A long pass play from junior QB Jake Elwood to Dillon Kuk got the ball close to the end zone. Trenton Hurst took it in from 2-yards out.

The next time M-P had the ball, MG stopped them on the first few plays, but then Hurst burst up the middle and ran 64 yards to paydirt.

MG drove the ball down the field, but then M-P took over on downs on a dropped pass on fourth down.

M-P drove down the field but missed a field goal to keep the score 13-0.

The next time M-P had the ball, they drove down the field, but MG had them on a fourth and long. However, Jordan Justice made a catch from Elwood across the middle to keep the driving going. Justice ended up running the ball in from 3 yards out to make it 20-0.

Cameron Halzelwood connected on a 31-yard field goal to make it 20-3 at halftime.

M-P continued to cruise in the third quarter, adding a 1-yard scoring run by Elwood and a 20-yard scoring run by Isaiah Galindo For the game, M-P was led by Hurst with 195 yards on 22 carries and Bryan Sanders with 13 carries for 110 yards.

MG quarterback Caleb Koellmer was 10 for 27 passing for 100 yards and two interceptions. M-P’s defense held MG to only 27 yards rushing on 16 carries.

ARLINGTON – With Anthony Whitis back at quarterback, you just knew the Arlington Eagles were never out of this game.

Arlington knocked Oak Harbor out of the unbeaten ranks in 3A Wesco play Friday night with a stunning 48-42 win over the visitors.

In the back-and-forth battle, Arlington scored the last two touchdowns to win in overtime.

First, late in the fourth quarter Whitis hit Griffin Gardoski with a 7-yard pass for a score. Whitis connected with Joey Stretch for two to tie the game and send it into overtime.

In the extra period, Whitis and Gardoski connected again, this time from 22-yards out, to take the win.

Whitis was out last week with a concussion in a loss Marysville Getchell. This is the third time this year he has led the Eagles to a fourth-quarter comeback win.

Oak Harbor scored first, but Arlington came back on a 1-yard run to make it 7-6 after the kick failed. Both teams scored twice in the second quarter, with Whitis connecting with Gardoski on two separate 16-yard strikes. On the first TD the two paired up for a two-point conversion, but the kick failed after the second score so the hometown team trailed 21-20 at the half.

Arlington took the lead in the third quarter on another hookup from Whitis to Gardoski, this time from 15 yards. Gardoski also caught the two-point conversion from backup QB Cole Cramer to make it 28-21.

But things quickly turned around as Oak Harbor scored on two-straight runs to go back up 35-28.

Whitis decided to let someone besides Gardoski in on the receiving scoring end, tossing a 14-yarder to Stretch, but the Eagles still trailed 35-34 after the two-point conversion pass failed.

Oak Harbor scored on another run, setting up the late Whitis to Gardoski heroics.

For the game, Whitis went 22 for 43 for 367 yards and six TDs, along with one pick. He was also the team’s leading rusher, gaining 79 yards on 17 carries.

Gardoski was unstoppable, with 12 catches for 152 yards and the five scores. Stretch added five catches for 146 yards, a spectacular average of 29 yard per catch.
