Both Arlington teams advanced to the 3A District 1 semifinals tonight by winning Thursday.
Marysville-Pilchuck’s boys also advanced, while the Marysville Getchell girls lost.
MG’s girls play a loser out game at home against Meadowdale at 6 p.m. If they win, they play Saturday at 2:30 at EvCC in another must-win game.
Arlington’s girls host Edmonds-Woodway in a semifinal matchup at 5 p.m. If the Eagles win, they play for the title Saturday at 6 at EvCC.
All winners in the winners bracket tonight move on to the state regionals.
For the boys, MG plays at Arlington at 7 p.m. Stanwood plays at M-P at 6 p.m.
The winners of those games play at Everett Community College Saturday night at 8 for the district title.
If M-P loses, it would play Saturday at 12:30 at EvCC. The loser of the MG-Arlington game will play Saturday at 4.
In the 2A District 1 Tournament, Lakewood lost Thursday night to Anacortes 64-47. It plays a loser out game at Mountlake Terrace tonight at 7.
Thursday’s games
Arlington’s defense controlled the game in the boys’ 54-42 win over Squalicum Thursday.
Josh Gutierrez had 18 points and Anthony Whitis scored 16 for the Eagles (15-5). Ayodele Aribibola played his first game of the season after recovering from a broken kneecap and scored two points.
Other scoring: Will Abram 8, Griffin Gardoski 6 and with 2 each Caden Smith and Michael Tsoukalas.
In the Eagle girls game, top-seeded Arlington (16-4) tied a school-record with 16 3-pointers on its way to a 62-49 win over No. 8 Meadowdale (13-8)/.
Sierra Scheppele scored 19 points, hitting 5 of 9 3-point attempts, and Hailey Hiatt added 16 points. Other scoring: Allison DeBerry 9, Keira Marsh and Abbey Hassing 6 each, Makenzie Gage 4 and Josie Stupey 2.
Mikail Montez scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the MG girls fell to E-W 52-39.
The Chargers didn’t get going until the third quarter, falling behind 17-4 after one and 27-10 at halftime. Their 21 points in the third period was more than they scored the other three quarters combined.
Other Charger scoring: Kiki Green 5, Sydney Norton and Maddy Grandbois 4 each, and Kortney Crane 3.
