MARYSVILLE About on par with a cameras shutter or the snap of ones fingers, a quarter of a second isnt a whole lot of time.
But :00.28 is all it took for M-P standout Trevor LeValley to take possession of his third school record, this time in the boys 100 backstroke.
With a time of 55.27, LeValley broke the three-year-old mark by M-P alum Stephen Garka in the Tomahawks 109-77 win over Shorecrest, Jan. 17. LeValley already holds the school record in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle, events he swam in the state pool at the King County Aquatic Center last season.
Gabe Lopez took second to LeValley in the event, swimming a state-worthy 57.67 in his own right, 23-hundredths of a second under the required state mark.
The backstroke rivals teamed up to help M-P bookend the Shorecrest meet with wins in the 400 medley relay that opened the meet and the 400 freestyle relay that closed it. The juniors helped account for three of M-Ps eight event victories. Their teammates on the winning relays, senior Aaron Goff and sophomores Oliver Durand and Spencer Girard each won an individual event as well.
Goff took the proverbial gold in the 100 freestyle in 51.63, followed by Durand in 52.81. Durand won the second event of the night, the 200 freestyle, in 1:52.98, while Spencer Girard outlasted the competition in the marathon 500 freestyle, an event he won in 5:11.33.
Taylor Gibson continued an impressive run of diving performances, winning the event with a score of 237.70. He well outscored Shorecrests Ben Wilcox, who took second in the event.
Brody Coleman was the sixth Tomahawk to win an individual event, taking the 100 breaststroke in a speedy 1:06.04, less than a second ahead of Shorecrests Kevin McKay.
Shorecrests Tyler Hayden was the only Highlander to win multiple events, taking top honors in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and anchoring his teams winning 200 freestyle relay.
