Lakewood runs Twilight without varsity

MARYSVILLE With the varsity team enjoying palm trees and historic views at the Iolani Invitational in Hawaii, some Lakewood runners took the opportunity to distinguish themselves at the Tomahawk Twilight Meet.

Freshman Trent Tresch pulled off a second-place finish in the freshman-sophomore race that kicked off the Sept. 22 meet at Cedarcrest Golf Course. His 18:18.99 time was about 17 seconds behind victor Ben Ressler of Skyline.
Sophomore Mitchel Gogert finished 13th in the same race in 19:15.59.
On the girls side, freshman Chelsea Stokes had a top-10 finish in her own race. With a time of 22:04.06, she managed seventh-place honors. Another freshman, Tasha Bartol, had a notable finish in the same race. In 23:06.06, Bartol took 17th.
In boys JV, senior Ben Scheffer crossed the finish line first for the Cougars, coming in 29th in 20:07.07. A trio of juniors wasnt far behind him. Brian Star, Payden Butler and Billy McKeever all finished less than 40 seconds behind Scheffer for 32nd, 34th and 44th overall.
While no girls represented Lakewood in the varsity race, the boys fielded a varsity team and its leaders ran tight races. Junior James Mattson finished 56th in 18:16.56, while junior Byron Gouette was 16 seconds behind for 61st place. Senior Andy completed the race in 18:35.03 for 65th.
Juniors Craig Hooks, Thomas Scheffer, Jeremy Webb and Devon Smith also represented Lakewood in the race.
