Lakewood’s team hosted a scramble Wednesday night with Oak Harbor, Burlington-Edison, Mount Baker, Ferndale, La Connor and Anacortes participating.

The Cougars had an impressive start with Torrance Blackwood at 115 pounds, Ashtyn Falor at 120, Cassidy O’Hara at 125, Olivia Poulton at 130 and Annistazia Kramer at 145 pounds all winning with pins in the first round.

Sarah Skegrud, at 140 pounds, had one of the most-exciting matches of the night, losing 9-8 but just falling short of a near fall as the final buzzer sounded.

In another match at 145 pounds, Hailey Schoenbachler lost by pin.

Jackson Schultz came off the bench to score all 13 of his points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Cougars erase an 11-point deficit and beat Sedro-Woolley 79-73 Tuesday in a Northwest 2A matchup.

“Having bench guys like Jackson step up was the most pivotal part of the game,” Lakewood coach Anthony Wiederkehr said. “We haven’t had much bench production this year, and those guys played great defense, too.”

Five Lakewood (9-3 overall, 5-1 league) players reached double figures, paced by Alex Jensen’s 21, Morgan Stacey’s 19, Shae Dixon’s 11 and Alex Coleman’s 10. Machai Harris was held to 3 points and Jared Taylor 2.
