Two Marysville divers qualified for state and a third might get a wild card spot after the District 1 Swim and Dive Championships at Snohomish.
Saturday’s 3A regional meet was canceled due to snow, so those who obtained state-qualifying times in Friday’s preliminaries will advance to state.
For the combined M-P/MG swim team, advancing are divers Andrew Kallio, who was second with 379.55 points, and Daniel Kirkwood, who was fourth with 308.65. Coach Meredith Jenks said Leif Anderson, who placed fifth with 276 points, still might advance as a wild card.
In team scoring, M-P tied for sixth with 126 points, while MG was ninth with 101.
Although they didn’t qualify for state, M-P/MG swimmers did get plenty of time on the podium, winning ribbons for placing in the top eight in an event.
Placing sixth in the 200-yard medley relay from MG were Jesse Nahinu, Nicholas Carlson, Kameron Wilkes and Hunter Brown. Finishing 11th was M-P’s team of Michael Butts, Luke Pusateri, Jayden Boyle and Jose Anderson.
Junior Ian Meetsma of M-P was seventh in the 200 free. Teammate freshman Seth Little was 13th. Meetsma was 8th in the 100 free.
M-P was eighth in the 400 free relay with Little, Boyle, Anderson and Meetsma. MG was ninth with freshman Andrew Christensen, Brown, Carlson and Wilkes.
In the 200 free relay, MG was eighth with Carlson, Nahinu, Brown and Wilkes. M-P was 10th with Anderson, Boyle, Little and Meetsma.
Just missing the podium in the 100 breaststroke was Carlson, who finished ninth. Placing 12th was Nahinu and 13th Anderson. Pusateri, a freshman, was 29th.
Wilkes was 9th in the 100 butterfly, Little was 16th and Brown 21st. Nahinu was 12th in the 50 free. Christensen was 13th in the 500 free. Sophomore Xander Johnson of MG was 30th. Christensen was 23rd in the 200 individual medley.
Boys basketball games at Marysville-Pilchuck, Marysville Getchell and Arlington were canceled Friday night, along with the girls game at MG, due to snow.
All of those contests have been rescheduled for Tuesday. Whether they win or lose, they also are supposed to play Wednesday.
In 2A basketball, Lakewood kept its season alive with a 53-59 win over Archbishop Murphy Thursday.
Alex Jensen led Lakewood with 20 points, while Kaiden Harrison added 13 and Jared Taylor 12. Other Lakewood scoring: Jackson Schultz 7, Sean Phillips 6 and Shae Dixon 5.
The Cougars took a commanding 16-6 first-quarter lead and that was a good thing as ABM outscored the home team 24-16 in the final quarter.
ABM ended its season with a 7-12 record.
