EVERETT — Both of Marysville’s high school softball teams would have qualified for state if they would have won Thursday.

Neither did, so both of their seasons ended.

An experienced Marysville Getchell squad lost to Everett 3-1, and a young Marysville-Pilchuck team that was supposed to be go through a rebuilding year lost to Edmonds-Woodway 9-6.

The Charger-Seagull matchup ended up being a pitching duel between MG’s Brionna Palm and Everett’s Jackie Rookaird.

Everett scored in the bottom of the third inning after an infield single, a single to left, an error and a wild pitch. MG catcher Shannon Patton made a diving catch of a little pop up right in front of home plate to keep the damage to a minimum.

MG threatened after Palm singled and stole second with no out. After a walk, and a pop-up, Hannah Kranz tore the cover off the ball with a line drive to left-center. But it was caught and Palm was doubled off second base to end the inning.

Everett scored two more in the fifth after two straight singles to start the inning. After MG’s defense came up with two outs, Kendall Tebatebai hit a double to drive in both runners.

The Chargers did make it interesting in the seventh. Rookaird walked two batters and a single by Skyleigh Morrison brought in a run. But the game ended with the potential winning run at the plate.

Everett’s going to state for the fourth time in five years.

Rookaird, an Alabama A&M University signee, struck out nine, walked four and gave up three hits.

Meanwhile, E-W jumped out to a 9-0 lead and held on to beat M-P. Reese Riggins hit a solo home run in the second and Sofia Chamorro blasted a two-run homer in the fourth.

The Tomahawks scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and another in the seventh, but two strikeouts ended the game with the tying run at the plate.
