Arlington stays alive; locals succeed in tennis, golf, too

EVERETT — Marysville-Pilchuck is going to state, but Arlington needs to beat Meadowdale Saturday to do the same.

M-P qualified for state and the Class 3A Northwest District Championship Saturday by beating Meadowdale 9-1 Tuesday.

The Eagles are having to make their way through the loser’s bracket after being shut out 3-0 by Edmonds-Woodway Tuesday.

Arlington stayed in contention by beating Shorewood 7-2 Wednesday. It will place third at districts if it beats Meadowdale and advance to state that way.

M-P, 18-4, will play E-W for the title.

Owen Bishop combined with two relievers to limit Shorewood to seven hits. Bishop hit a single and Michael Tsoukalas a double to drive in runs for the Eagles.

“It took a couple of innings for us to get into the game and really focus up,” Arlington coach Scott Striegel told The Herald. “Later in the game, we started playing like we have been. We just talked about how we wanted this season to continue to go, and now we’ve got to go win ballgames.”
