Arlington 1 win away from state in baseball; soccer faces must-win game

ARLINGTON

Baseball

After beating Oak Harbor 10-0 in six innings at home Saturday, the Eagles baseball team plays Shorewood Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Funko Field in Everett in a winner-to-state game.

Owen Bishop pitched a two-hitter against Oak Harbor, striking out eight.

Andrew Smith starred at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Paul Chung, Cole Warner and Bishop all went 2-3 with Warner knocking in a run and Bishop hitting in two to go along with a double.

Oak Harbor kept it close for five innings in the 3A District 1 game with Arlington ahead just 4-0, but then the Eagles rallied for six in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.

A strange play led to the Arlington run in the fourth inning. After Bishop walked, Mike Tsoukalas popped up to the catcher. But the spin of the ball and the wind carried it into fair territory, where the catcher and third baseman collided. Bishop went to third and scored on Cole Cramer’s sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, Warner got on after a bunt single then Chung and Camden Anderson singled to load the bases. Jack Sheward hit a bases loaded single to make it 6-0. Bishop hit an RBI double, followed by a 2 RBI single by Smith. After an intentional walk, a sacrifice fly scored the winning run.

Soccer

After losing 1-0 to M-P Saturday in the first round of the 3A District 1 Tournament, the boys play a loser out game Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Squalicum.

Tennis

At home, Mount Vernon shut out Arlington 7-0 last Friday.

The best showings for the Eagles came at No. 4 singles, where Haily Brossard won six games, and at No. 3 doubles, where Alexia Price-Bella Leighton lost 6-1, 7-6 (3).
