MARYSVILLE Lit Up softball suffered a discouraging defeat to coed rival All In, Aug. 1, during Marysville recreational league action.
All In closed strong, holding Lit Up to three-and-out in the five-inning games last three innings. In the same period they scored 16 runs to defeat Lit Up 22-1.
Leadoff slugger James Jones got a double to start the game off and ran in on a fly out by Joel Wright. Stacy Daigans single was converted to a score on third baseman Dave Allens home run to give All In its game-winning runs.
All In was up by six runs when Lit Up got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Brian Batch, Roy Medley and Sabrina Moses all got on base when, with two outs, All In gave up a walk a rare event in slow-pitch softball. Batch walked in before Jason Rogers flew out to center field.
The rest of the game proved dismal for Lit Up who suffered at the hands of the All In defense.
Allen played an instrumental role in All Ins defense at third base. Allen touched the ball in eight of the 15 outs his team needed to get from Lit Up, including catches of five fly balls. In the bottom of the third, he stopped Jennifer Saltzs double with a throw from first baseman Leslie Elvebak, getting the tag.
And as the All In defense tightened, Lit Ups defensive woes increased. Rhonda Goehsch, Cameron Hanson, Blondie Hoskins, Missy Rork, Jones, Elvebak, Wright and Daigan all scored in the top of the fourth for a 15-1 game going into the bottom of the inning.
All In continued the thrashing into the fifth as Jones scored his third run of the game. Wright hit a grand slam and Daigan followed him with a homer of her own for her third run.
Trying to make something happen in the bottom of the fifth, Moses and Steven Butler flew out to Allen. Lit Ups third out was a fly ball to center field.
