Praise and raze (July 22)

Praise to those involved in Relay for Life. We’re not sure why it’s not as big of an event as it used to be, but we need to keep fighting for a cure.

Praise for the Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital coming to the area.

Praise to Marysville officials for realizing the need for a community Fourth of July event.

Praise to the Arlington Fly-In and Fourth for two wonderful community events.

Praise to Poochapalooza for putting on another dog-gone fun event.

Raze to railroads for not being willing to slow down in areas where people have been killed, trespassing or not.

Raze to the driver and witnesses who won’t come forward after the hit-and-run killing at 4th and I-5.

Praise to Marysville police for its youth academy.

Praise to Penny Protheroe for street ministry. So many government and private agencies are try to help the homeless, but her little one-person army seems to be working.

Praise to the Marysville Farmers Market for its efforts to become more of a weekly community event.

Praise to all of those involved in collecting school supplies for kids.

Praise to those who vote in the primary. Any complaints are more valid if you vote.

Praise to Arlington for setting aside money for a Social Services Fund to help addicts beat their demons.

Praise to the Maryfest officers, board and volunteers for putting on another wonderful Marysville Strawberry Festival. Despite internal squabbling, it really is a special organization that deserves community support next year.

Praise to the Marysville School District for planning better how to maintain its schools, and on determining when bonds need to pass way into the future to keep the schools up-to-date without breaking the bank of taxpayers. Praise also for looking at changes for all its schools, not just Marysville Getchell, to do what’s best for kids.

Praise to Marysville United Methodist Church and others for helping little Reese Estes and her family.

Praise to those trying to keep the craft of egg art alive.

Praise to the moms who play a Powderpuff Football Game each year to raise money for their kids.

Praise to the Marysville Historical Society, and especially Ken Cage, for all the work they did on the new museum.

Praise to the cities of Marysville and Arlington for all the things they do to keep kids active during summers.

Praise to Arlington for closely looking at some rezone applications before approval.

Raze that the State Patrol is cracking down on freeway left-lane users. Why not focus on the speeders, reckless drivers, road rage, etc.?

Raze to the young boy who drove around a barricade before a speeding Amtrak train was even done passing by. Your life is worth more than that.
