In an effort to inform the citizens of Marysville, it is our pleasure to provide an overview of the laws pertaining to the purchase and discharge of fireworks within the city of Marysville so every person enjoys a safe holiday.

The Marysville Fire Department will also be providing Fireworks Safety information due to injuries suffered annually by citizens due to the fireworks.

As always, your Public Safety personnel urge all citizens to only purchase those fireworks deemed legal and safe by Marysville Municipal Code. In addition, please follow the guidelines set by Marysville Municipal Code for the “Discharge Restrictions” that were enacted due to your public voice.

Q. What types of fireworks are legal in the City of Marysville?

A. Consumer style (Class C) or otherwise known as “Safe and Sane” fireworks are the only fireworks that may be sold or discharged within the city limits.

Q. When can we purchase legal fireworks?

A. The fireworks stands may sell their legal fireworks from noon to 11 p.m. on June 28 and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on June 29 through July 4th.

Q. When can we discharge fireworks in the City of Marysville?

A. Consumer fireworks may be discharged July 4 only from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and from 9 a.m., Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Q. What types of fines or penalties are associated with violating the sales, purchase, or discharge of both legal and illegal fireworks?

A. These penalties range from a Civil Infraction (fine) in the amount up to $500 to a criminal misdemeanor with penalties not to exceed 90 days in jail and/or up to $1,000 fine. In addition, depending on the severity of the offense, the penalty may be a Gross Misdemeanor resulting in sentence of up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

The Marysville Police Department will also have extra officers patrolling neighborhoods surrounding the 4th of July in an effort to reduce the illegal sales and discharge of fireworks. We urge all citizens to use fireworks safely to insure everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July
