Iver Halstead, 90, of Marysville, Wash., died Aug. 13, 2007.
Iver was born on Aug. 9, 1917, in Three Lakes, Wash..
Iver was the oldest of nine and was preceded in death by brothers, Clifford, Leroy, Marvin, Harry and sisters, Laura and Erma Anderson.
He is survived by brothers, Clyde and Jerry; and sisters, Marlene Batt and Thelma Doyle.
Iver attended school in Monroe, Wash., until the eighth grade. At age 14, Iver went to work in the logging industry. At age 16, Iver enlisted in the U.S. Army and served six years in the Signal Corps and was honorably discharged in 1939. Iver then enlisted in the Navy and served through World War II in the Pacific Theater as a Chief Petty Officer in the Marine Construction Battilion (SeeBees).
In 1956, Iver met Yaeko Tome of Naha City, Okinawa and they married in 1957. Iver was honorably discharged in 1969, have served in the Navy for 30years. Iver then went to work for the City of Everett Transit department for 10 years, retiring at the age of 62.
Iver is survived by Yaeko, his wife of 50 years; sons, Clifford (Cheryl) of Lake Stevens, Wash., Robert (Lisa) of Anacortes, Wash., David (Svetlana) of Ballard, Wash.; daughters, Laura McAviston, of Colorado, Susan Leavenworth (David), of Rosalia, Wash., Judy Beach (Robert) of Auburn, Wash., Irene Gross (Robert) of Stanwood, Wash.; and Lynda Corish (Peter), of Murrintown, County Wexford, Ireland; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
