Edna M. Wardell

Edna M. Wardell, (84), died Saturday Oct. 10, 2008 in her place of residence in Kent, Wash.

She was born Feb. 20, 1924, the second of five children. in Fredonia Kan., to A.L. and Lola (Loether) Baker.

She graduated in 1942 from Fredonia High School. While attending Wichita Business College, she was accepted to work in Washington D.C. with the FBI where she was employed for over eight years.

On November 26, 1948 in Washington D.C., she was married to James J. Wardell, who at that time was attending Naval schooling in Anacostia Virginia. While on the East Coast they resided in Washington D.C., New Jersey, Virginia and South Carolina.

Besides being a Girl Scout during her school years, she was also a Brownie Scout leader in Kansas and South Carolina and a Boy Scout Den Mother in Arlington. In 1941 she was selected to be the first Girl Stater in her hometown to attend Kansas Girls State.

When her husband retired from the USN in 1961, they moved to his hometown of Arlington, Wash. She was employed for over 23 years at The Arlington Times as a photo-typesetter and receptionist.

She was a member of Stillaguarnish Valley Pioneer Association and Stillaguamish Valley Genealogy Society and also worked on the Stillaguamish Senior Center newsletter for three years. She was active in the Pioneer Museum for five years. Her hobby was bowling.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in March 1989; a granddaughter Alyssia Read in February 1989; also sisters, Alma McKever of Thomton, Colo. and Ruth Mitchell of Laguna Beach, Calif.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Clint Read of Kent; son and his wife, Jim and Denise Wardell of Arlington; brother Merle Baker and wife Darlene of Lakeland, Fla.; sister Joan Richardson and husband Ken of Fredonia, Kan.; three granddaughters, Carrie and Kelly Wardell of Arlington and Micaela Read of Kent, Wash.

At her request, no service will be held. Cremation arrangements, under the direction of Barton Family Funeral Service, with inurnment in Arlington Cemetery.
