Dr. Eric N. Henning

Dr. Eric Norman Henning, 60, died at home on Feb. 27, from complications of pancreatic cancer. He is survived and loved forever by wife Bonnie (Holler), sons Lars and Lucas, and sister Kristin (Bartel), who are grateful to have been present to honor his journey.

Eric was born Dec.30, 1949, to Earl Nels and Jane Cary Henning. He grew up in St. Cloud, Minn., and graduated from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., in 1972, with a B.A. in English. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his residency in Family Practice medicine in 1987. Arlington, Wash., became the Henning home in 1987, and Eric enjoyed the ensuing years practicing medicine, spending time with his family, mountain biking, snowboarding, working on home projects, and exploring the Pacific Northwest. Eric was employed by Northwest Emergency Physicians, and worked for the past 22 years in the Emergency Department at Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington. In 2005, he became Medical Director of Emergency Services for CVH. With the opening of the new hospital wing earlier this year, the expanded Emergency Department was dedicated to Dr. Henning, honoring him for his leadership, mentoring, and service. Henning also worked as Medical Program Director for the City of Arlington Fire Department and participated in disaster response planning for the district.

Henning is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Beth (Olson). He is survived by an extensive admiration society, including nieces and nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, co-workers, friends, and so many others who encountered Eric’s gentle and intelligent manner.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Virginia Mason (Seattle), OptionCare, Skagit Valley Hospice, CaringBridge.org, and the people of Arlington Fire Department and the CVH Emergency Department for their personal and professional support of Eric and the family.

Details of a celebration of Eric’s life are pending. Visit http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/erichenning/journal for more information.
