MARYSVILLE — The city of Marysville is pleased to name Municipal Court Program Specialist Mary Vermeulen as its Employee of the Month for February, in recognition of her valuable customer service and quick processing action when local police agencies began issuing some of their citations as e-tickets.

Since she was hired in February of 2001, Vermeulen has spent several years working in the city’s law and justice system, working first in the Marysville Police Department before joining the Marysville Municipal Court in July of 2007.

Among her responsibilities, Vermuelen enters all citations into the Judicial Information System, prepares criminal files for arraignment, processes and distributes incoming mail, processes files for defendants who have bailed out of jail, prints court summonses for mailing, and answers phones and assists the public at the front counter.

The three cities served by the Municipal Court — Marysville, Arlington and Lake Stevens — have begun processing a portion of their citations using e-ticketing, a new way of electronically filing tickets with the court.

“It has taken a lot of patience to get the bugs worked out,” said Kim Ricker, business office supervisor for the city. “Mary has been our go-to person, the office expert, in getting e-tickets filed accurately and timely.”

Recently, in one day, 92 e-tickets were filed, a number that is more typical of an entire month’s filings. Ricker, who nominated Vermeulen, said that Vermeulen jumped into the task and kept a great sense of humor while processing the citations.

Her co-workers appreciate Vermeulen’s great attitude in the office, and her willingness to do whatever is needed to get the job done, Ricker said.

Vermeulen and her husband, Chuck, have two grown children who are both working in law enforcement.
