TULALIP — The Tulalip Lions Club and PC Recycle of Arlington teamed up to help area techies dispose of their old and outdated electronics in an environmentally safe way.

Both groups collected “e-waste” at the northeast corner of the Tulalip Home Depot lot June 25-26, filling half a truck with items ranging from TVs and CPUs to keyboards and scanners, and receiving $109 in cash donations in the process.

Alysia Roe of the Tulalip Lions Club expects they’ll conduct more such recycling drives in the future, albeit with more prior promotion and different event times than this year’s shifts of noon to 4 p.m. on both days.

“It really needed to be earlier or later to accommodate people at work,” said Roe, who hopes to see the event move to the parking lot of the Tulalip Resort Hotel and Casino next year.

Fellow Tulalip Lions Club member Linda Tolbert noted that many people who dropped off other items to recycle hadn’t realized that spiral and tube light bulbs can be recycled as well.

“This Lions electronic recycle project will improve the environment and our community at the same time,” Tulalip Lions Club President Keith Osburn said. “It exemplifies our ongoing commitment to provide a healthier and safer place to live, work and play.”

All proceeds from donations will go to the Tulalip Lions Club’s community service projects.

The Tulalip Lions Club meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month at noon at the Canoes Cabaret in the Tulalip Resort Casino, located at 10200 Quil Ceda Blvd. In addition to environmental projects, the club also recycles eye glasses and cell phones, contributes to Tulalip Boys & Girls Club projects, provides free books to schools and works with Tulalip elders and seniors.
