MARYSVILLE — If you haven’t seem them yet, you just might be bound to run into some 40 Totem Middle School students who want see some history being made.

Beginning in March, the students have been working to raise funds to attend the inauguration of the next president of the United States which takes place in Washington D.C. on Jan. 18, 2009.

Totem teacher Debra Hudson said the next big fundraising enterprise for the students is a spaghetti dinner planned for Oct. 4 at the school, 1605 Seventh St., NE.

The event also will feature a silent auction for items such as a flat screen TV, a Nintendo WII entertainment system, an Ocean Shores get-away and some 80 other items.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be had from students or at the school. Tickets also will be available at the door.

Hudson said students, along with 12 parents and faculty members, need to pay for the trip by early November. Besides the inauguration ceremony and parade, the trip will include an inaugural ball thrown for students, along with sightseeing at the White House, the U.S. Capital, the Smithsonian Institute and D.C.’s national monuments.

Students and their chaperones also will spend two days in New York City.

Other fundraising efforts have included selling cookies, doughnuts, candy bars and car wash tickets.
