This week in football

A breakdown of this week's local football games.

MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck plays No. 1 3A South division champion Meadowdale Oct. 31 at Quil Ceda stadium at 8 p.m.

After the catastrophic events taking place the week before on M-P’s campus, the Tomahawks hit the ground running, preparing for their contest against Meadowdale.

“We are excited to get back out there,” M-P head coach Brandon Carson said.

The Tomahawks will be in for a tough matchup, he said.

“They are a great team that is balanced offensively and defensively,” he said. “We will have to establish a run-game with Killian Page and Austin Joyner.”

Meadowdale showed its 3A South dominance against Shorecrest Oct. 24, shutting them out 48-0.

“We’ll have to stop the run-game and go from there,” Carson said.

Meadowdale’s Malik Braxton led the team with a 15-yard reception for one touchdown and another on a 60-yard interception.

MARYSVILLE — Before M-P’s game at Quil Ceda, Marysville Getchell will play Lynnwood at 5 p.m.

Though ranked No. 5 in the 3A South, Lynnwood showed versatility in scoring in its recent win over Shorewood 30-21, including

Andrew Katzenberger, who scored two of Lynnwood’s touchdowns.

But MG counters with Collin Montez, who leads the league in rushing.

ARLINGTON — Arlington hosts the 3A South No. 3-ranked Glacier Peak Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.

Glacier Peak topped Edmonds-Woodway 20-17 Oct. 27, showing they can score in the air and from kicking.

Glacier Peak’s quarterback Justin Guffey connected with Brady Southard twice for two touchdowns. Kicker Spencer Pettit sealed Glacier Peak’s win with a last-second 45-yard field goal.

Arlington dominated Everett 57-14 Oct. 24, with quarterback Andrew Kalahar throwing touchdown passes to Noah Andal, Tyler Smith and Connor Bovard.

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Cougars end their regular season hosting Granite Falls Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.

Granite Falls kept pace with Cedarcrest last week with running back Daniel Head scoring a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game 7-7. But they gave up two touchdowns in the second half to lose the game.

Win or lose, Lakewood has secured the No. 1 seed in the Cascade 2A conference and will host the No. 4 seed from the Northwest Conference Nov. 7.

Quarterback Blake Watts was the offensive workhorse in Lakewood’s latest victory over South Whidbey 53-22 in which he rushed for three touchdowns, completed six out of nine passes and a touchdown pass to Joshua Dickey.
