The 2009 Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Flying Disc Championships team up with Poochapalooza on July 11 to unleash the champion in your dog

Athletic dogs will be jumping for joy – literally – when they compete at Marysville Poochapalooza on Saturday, July 11 to earn the title of champion during the 2009 Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Flying Disc Championships.

MARYSVILLE – Athletic dogs will be jumping for joy – literally – when they compete at Marysville Poochapalooza on Saturday, July 11 to earn the title of champion during the 2009 Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Flying Disc Championships.

The competition will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Totem Middle School’s Asbery Field, 1605 7th St., as a featured event at the 4th Annual Poochapalooza outdoor dog event. The tournament will be coordinated by Ray Calhoun, a repeat champion on the flying disc circuit.

There is no entry fee for competitors, and admission is free to spectators. Novice and veteran competitors alike are invited to compete in distance, accuracy and freestyle. No entry or pre-registration is required, but showing up 30 minutes early is advised.

Competitors will receive a free official Hyperlite K-10 Competition standard flying disc while they last; the top three will receive awards.

Contestants and their canine teammates will earn points for basic throws and catches, with bonus points for mid-air catches in the Distance/Accuracy event. The event welcomes mixed-breed as well as purebred dogs. Many of the canines expected to compete were rescued from local animal shelters. Families and friends are invited to enjoy this unique event and applaud these talented canine athletes.
