MARYSVILLE Thanks to a grant donated to the city by the local Kiwanis, City Parks and Recreation Director Jim Ballew said State Avenue will shortly feature some revved up holiday decor.
In the past, during the holidays, State has sported 18 banners proclaiming Merrysville for the Holidays.
Please notice the spelling. Its not a mistake, but based on a proclamation the city passed several years ago, Ballew said.
This year, the number of banners should reach up to 30.
Weve got nutcrackers, weve got drummers, weve got all kinds of stuff, Ballew said of the designs on the new banners.
Additionally, Ballew said trees on State will be lighted with holiday bulbs and some of that work is already done. The banners should be up by Thanksgiving or the weekend after.
As in past years, holiday lights also will outline various public buildings, including City Hall, the Baxter Senior Community Center and others. City parks also will get the lighting treatment, Ballew added. In fact, he said city crews have been at work on the decorations since October.
