MARYSVILLE — Adults with special needs in the community will be able to party on Halloween week at the Marysville YMCA, while also supporting families in need.

The Marysville YMCA is hosting a “Special People In Need” Dance, or “SPIN” Dance, Oct. 28 from 7-9 p.m., with an admission cost of $1 per person, or a canned food item for the Marysville Food Bank.

Michelle Galasso, with the Marysville YMCA, credited Mary Jane Miller with starting the first SPIN Dances, and thanked Jerry Albin, of the city of Everett Parks and Recreation Department, for helping to inspire her own efforts.

“Every third Tuesday of the month, they have a huge program at Forest Park,” Galasso said. “But there’s not as many programs for adults with developmental disabilities in Marysville.”

Galasso sees the Marysville YMCA as an ideal location to serve such people, with its easy access to mass transit, and she’s already enlisting assistance to make the event memorable.

“We’re hoping to get donations of cookies from the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center and others,” Galasso said. “And Voices of the Village is already set to perform for the evening.”

Voices of the Village is a band whose members are clients of Village Community Services, a Smokey Point-based organization that aides adults with special needs in finding and keeping both jobs and places to live.
