JORDAN RIVER TRAILS A new venue of the Arlington Arts Councils Art along the Way project is a bit out of the way, but has potential for close and intimate viewing.
Bob and Lisa Watkins are pleased to have original art hanging on the walls at their River Rock Inn just in time for a series of holiday events, including the Marysville-Tulalip Business After Hours Nov. 16 and the upcoming Business After Hours for the Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce Dec. 6.
The River Rock Inn as a beautiful rustic bed-and-breakfast up the road from the river off Jordan River Trails Road between Arlington and Smokey Point. Along with putting up guests over night, the Watkins also host gathering of up to, or a few more, than 100 people.
We have a lot of pieces by Kathy Firnstahl, Bob Watkins said adding her woodsy photographs fit well into the Cedar Room, a photograph of the Stillaguamish River fit into the Stilly Room, and another photograph of an owl is in the Woodlands Room. Each room at the River Rock Inn is decorated by theme, all the way down to the bedspread and sheets.
Were really excited to run a little mini-gallery here, Watkins said. Our customers have often asked where they could go to see art by local artists.
In line with their motto, Watkins is glad to say now they dont have to go anywhere.
The Watkins also selected a painting of mountains and trees by Monica Yantis for the Cedar Room and a painting of a homestead home for their Victorian Room.
The plan is to rotate art every three months, but now Bob and Lisa are having second thoughts.
If they want to leave them longer, it will be fine, Bob said.
Firnstahl also provided reading material for the throne room with her framed poems, The Leaning Post and The Eye Chart as well as a personal interpretation of American Gothic.
After more than one full year in business, the River Rock Inn finds most weekends fully booked, Watkins said.
One couple already responded to our discount for all chamber members, he added. The package deal includes a massage and facial, as well as meals. Another exciting possibility for the Watkins is the potential of being a site for a movie filming.
They are looking for a very remote place with a nearby airstrip, Watkins said adding they are waiting to hear from the state film department.
We are really happy with how the art came together, Watkins said.
And were excited to share it with our clientele.
