MARYSVILLE – Rewards are being offered, and Marysville police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down arsonists who set fire to a portable at Cedarcrest Middle School Aug. 1.

Marysville police and fire responded at about 5:30 a.m. that day at the school, 6400 88th St. NE. Along with the small portable building containing bathrooms, a dumpster close to the school and a trash can also were on fire.

Marysville School District officials estimate damage to the portable at approximately $72,000. Damage to the dumpster was estimated at $900. Additional costs associated with repairing fire and smoke damage to surrounding portables has not been determined.

The portable bathroom was adjacent to other portables that had recently been painted and renovated for the 2019-2020 school year. Evidentiary items to include video of the portable and the dumpster burning were recovered.

Witnesses were interviewed. Anyone with information is asked to call detective Chris Jones at 360-363-8300.
