EVERETT — The cities of Marysville and Arlington both advise motorists to factor a police motorcade into their travel and commuting plans for Thursday, June 6.

A procession of as many as 500 police vehicles is expected to honor fallen Washington State Trooper Sean O’Connell.

At this time, it’s expected that the procession will depart between 10-11 a.m. from the Smokey Point Rest Stop, along southbound I-5 near Exit 209. From there, it will leave I-5 at Everett Avenue, and proceed to the Comcast Arena.

Because of this, Marysville city officials are encouraging drivers heading southbound on I-5, between Smokey Point and downtown Everett during the midday, to allow extra time to get to their destinations.

Arlington city officials have issued an even more strenuous warning, urging vehicles to avoid Island Crossing altogether between 7 a.m. to noon, since the Island Crossing on-ramp and off-ramp area will serve as an overflow, to turn people around to get them into the Smokey Point Rest Stop area.

In addition, southbound I-5 traffic will be shut down prior to the motorcade’s start, and will remain closed until the last vehicles depart.

The 172nd Street NE interchange is being offered as an alternate route, to enter and exit I-5.

The service at the Comcast Arena is slated to start at 1 p.m., and is expected to last three hours.

For members of the public attending the ceremony, parking is available at the 10th Street Boat Launch Parking Lot, on the Everett waterfront, located at 10th Street and W. Marine View Drive.

Members of the public wishing to view the motorcade may do so from:

• The sidewalks of any overpass between Smokey Point and downtown Everett. Please do not park private vehicles on the overpasses.

• 34th Avenue NE, north of 116th, which faces the freeway.

• Along Everett Avenue in Everett, as the motorcade exits the freeway.
