Plenty going on in Marysville this weekend

MARYSVILLE – While the Fly-In, Street Fair and Farmer’s Market are the places to be in Arlington July 11, Marysville has a number of events of its own going on.

For dog lovers, there is the 9th Annual Poochapalooza, this year at Asbery Field at 4th and Alder. Touted as the county fair for dogs, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $5. There will be vendors, rescue booths, doggie fashion runway show, pooch pie-eating contest, races, rescues and nine categories of contests.

For car buffs, the 4th Annual Rodz on 3rd Car Show will feature more than 200 muscle, classic and custom vehicles. The free event put on by the downtown merchants also runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For fishing enthusiasts, free seminars on catching pink salmon will take place at Cabela’s from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Humpy season is one of the best in years, a Cabela’s news release says, with some reporting to have caught their limit in less than an hour. Topics for the fishing seminars are: Successful River Techniques for Pinks, Puget Sound Pink Fishing, Catching Pinks with Spoons and Fly Fishing for Pinks.

For movie lovers, Marysville’s Popcorn in the Park shows start with the PG rated “Paddington.” The movies are shown at dusk at the Jennings Park baseball field, 6915 Armar Road, through Aug. 15 on Saturdays.

For treasure collectors, there’s the Junk in the Trunk flea market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city courthouse, 1015 State. More than 60 vendors are expected in the huge parking lot event. Items include: toys, clothes, collectibles, crafts, furniture, housewares, antiques and more.

For people who want to get or stay in shape, the city’s FreeFit Saturdays starts July 11. It begins at 9 a.m. at Asbery Field and lasts one hour. Each week participants will learn a new way to get fit – from crossfit to boot camp to Umbra.

For gun enthusiasts, there is a gun show at the Red Curtain Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday fromn 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For midway fans, the Marysville Tulalip Chamber’s first carnival is taking place Saturday and Sunday at Allen Creek Elementary.
