MARYSVILLE — Chairman of the Tulalip Tribes, Mel Sheldon will be the guest speaker at the next Business Before Hours sponsored by the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce.

Sheldon to speak on Tulalip progress at chamber

MARYSVILLE — Chairman of the Tulalip Tribes, Mel Sheldon will be the guest speaker at the next Business Before Hours sponsored by the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce.

Recently re-elected as chairman, Sheldon is expected to speak on what is next for the Tribes. Tulalip already is home to the Tulalip and Quil Ceda casinos, as well as Seattle Premium Outlets. A resort hotel behind Tulalip Casino is slated to open soon. According to the chamber, the Tribes already have added some 3,000 jobs to the immediate area.

The chamber event is set for 7:30-9 a.m. April 25, in the Canoes Cabaret Room at the Tulalip Casino, 10200 Quil Ceda Boulevard. Doors open at 7 a.m.

Kiwanis Fishing Derby is May 3 at Jennings Park

MARYSVILLE — As always, free and open to children 12 and under, the 14th Annual Marysville Fishing Derby is 8 a.m., May 3, at the Kiwanis Pond in Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Rd.

The event is sponsored by the Marysville Kiwanis, the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club along with the city parks and recreation department.

Participants may bring their own equipment or use the equipment that will be provided. Young anglers are limited to one catch each. Door prizes and grand prizes will be determined by a random drawing of all participants.

Although pets are allowed in Jennings Park, derby organizers ask that pets not be brought to the fishing derby.

On the morning of the derby, the Kiwanis Club will sponsor a pancake breakfast in the Jennings Park pavilion. Cost is $3 a plate. Donations of canned food goods will be accepted in the name of the Marysville Food Bank.

Participants sought for Strawberry Festival

Talent Show

MARYSVILLE — The 2008 Marysville Strawberry Festival Talent Show is slated for 6:30 p.m., June 19.

Festival and show organizers are looking for talented people in various categories: singers, dancers, instrumentalists, comedians, etc. The show is open to contestants of all ages and either solo or group acts are welcome.

Auditions are 5:45-7:45 p.m., May 13-14, in the auditorium of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, 5611 108th St. Applications are needed and can be had by calling 360-653-6584. Forms also are available for downloading at www.Maryfest.com. Look under events. Application deadline is May 2.
