National Weather Service issues Winter Storm Watch

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for rain and snow showers in the area with possible snow falling through Thursday.

The National Weather Service forecast is calling for rain and snow showers in the area with possible snow falling through Thursday.

The NWS has also issued a Winter Storm Watch for the area.

It states, in part: Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning for the interior lowlands of Western Washington from Snohomish County and the Strait of Juan de Fuca northward to the Canadian border, including the eastern Puget Sound lowlands.

• Some affected locations are Bellingham, Friday Harbor, Port Angeles, Oak Harbor, Mount Vernon, Everett and North Bend.

• Accumulations … Snowfall accumulations of up to 6 inches are likely.

• Timing … While brief slushy accumulations are possible in showers through early Wednesday morning, the main period of significant accumulating snow is expected to begin over western Whatcom County Wednesday morning and slide through the remainder of the north interior and east Puget Sound lowlands during the day Wednesday. Snow may continue Wednesday night into Thursday morning for further accumulations.

Community Transit has announced that snow in the area has delayed some routes.

Snow in the Marysville and Lake Stevens area is causing delays on Routes 201, 202, 221 and 222 today. No stops are being missed at this time.

During inclement weather, CT offers the following tips:

• Dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear. You may need to wait longer or walk more in poor conditions.

• During icy conditions, a bus will not stop on a hill. Make sure you wait for the bus on level ground and wait until it stops completely before approaching it.

• Get to a park & ride or other major hub for the best service options.

• Make sure you are visible to the coach operator. Carry a flashlight or something reflective to use for flagging the bus and wear light or bright outerwear.

• Snow or wind damage in one area may cause delays elsewhere in our system.
