M’ville: Can’t put chairs up days before parade

MARYSVILLE – A longtime Marysville Strawberry Festival tradition is coming to an end.

For years, spectators anxious to reserve a good spot to watch the Grand Parade have placed lawn chairs along State Street days in advance.

But not any longer.

Parade goers won’t be able to put their chairs up until 5 p.m. Friday, June 19, the evening before the parade.

Several local businesses and festival organizer Maryfest asked for the change.

Parks director Jim Ballew said, “Having chairs blocking sidewalks and intersections for several days before the parade is a challenge for anyone walking or cycling along State Avenue.”

Any chairs placed along the street before that time and date will be confiscated. People will be able to retrieve them at the Public Works Department, 80 Columbia Ave., between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For details, call Public Works at 360-363-8100.
