The Marysville Public Works Building sustained significant flood damage during the thunderstorm that rocked the area Wednesday afternoon.

The building, at 80 Columbia Ave., has been rendered uninhabitable for the time being, according to Doug Buell, city of Marysville public information officer. As a result, city officials are moving Public Works and Community Development personnel to other city-owned buildings when offices open first thing Thursday morning.

Water levels in front, to the west and behind the main Public Works Building rose as high as what looked to be 12-18 inches, according to Buell.

“Around the rest of town, I know that there were some major high-water spots at key intersections, including Fourth and State, so we sent out our vactor crews to clear out and remove as much water from storm drains as possible,” Buell said. “I noticed high water levels over by the golf course on 67th, too, that made for tough going at a time of day where a lot of people were heading home from work.”

City officials will meet tomorrow morning to conduct an assessment of the damage to the building.
