MARYSVILLE — Soroptimist International of Marysville is proud to announce the recent induction of nine new members into their service organization, and the group aims to gain even more recruits, at the same time that it invites the rest of the community to take part in its upcoming fundraisers and information-sharing seminars designed to improve the lives of women, both locally and worldwide.
With the joining of Ellen Dockendorf, Linda Clay, Lett Florendo, Christina Trader, Chelsey Gonzales, Gail Palmer, Renee Navarre, Lainie Danielson and Kim Olson, there are now 48 members of Soroptimist International of Marysville, which Marysville Soroptimist spokesperson Renae James confirmed sets a new record high for the group.
“There are a few other interested ladies out there, so that number may go up even more in the next few weeks,” James said. “Our latest new members joined through our most recent ‘Get Acquainted’ event, and from our existing members sharing their excitement about our club with their friends and coworkers.”
Next month will give Marysville Soroptimist members, old and new alike, another opportunity to mingle with the community for a good cause, as the Soroptimist Bunco night returns to the Marysville American Legion Post 178 Hall on Thursday, Feb. 13, starting at 5:30 p.m. The $20 admission fee covers not only the Bunco game itself, but also dinner and prizes.
The first Soroptimist Bunco night at the Legion Hall, on Nov. 14 of last year, generated $880 in ticket money and $93 in raffle money from 44 attendees.
“It was one of our bigger crowds,” James said.
In the meantime, Marysville Soroptimist members are also seeking to shore up their fundraising totals through the already underway sale of See’s Candies chocolates, which will continue until Feb. 4. Looking further into the future, Soroptimist International of Marysville’s annual Junktique garage sale promises to fill two barns full of “treasures” on May 10, but before then, the group is seeking to schedule another human trafficking awareness event in April.
“Our goals for this year are a greater awareness of the human trafficking issues that are happening right here in our community, and more participation from the community in supporting our projects, as well as greater partnerships with our community members,” James said.
