Marysville schools hold town meeting Sept. 1

The Marysville School District will be conducting a town meeting Sept. 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the MSD Service Center Board Room.

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville School District will be conducting a town meeting Sept. 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the MSD Service Center Board Room.

MSD Superintendent Dr. Larry Nyland will join district finance, transportation and facility staff to provide updates on what’s happening in the school district.

Topics of discussion are set to include student learning and the Board’s goals in that area, with reviews of the district’s mission and vision statements and guiding principles. Information will also be offered on the district’s professional development and its progress in its student learning goals.

The 2009-2010 school year calendar, including early release days, will also be provided, as will information on Washington state tests and the district’s Small Learning Communities.

The discussion of the district’s facilities will address construction progress, aging facilities and athletic facilities, including the Marysville-Pilchuck pool and the Quil Ceda stadium’s track and turf. The Marysville-Pilchuck campus will also be addressed, in conjunction with the Citizens Planning Committee’s 2010 bond recommendation, the 20-30‐year plan and the Bond Oversight Committee’s work.

On the topic of finances, the district will discuss its 2009-2010 budget and how it’s impacted by the state funding shortfall outcomes, as well as the 2010 maintenance and operations levy.

Among the other topics discussed will be the transportation options for the Marysville-Getchell High School in 2010.
