Marysville School District offers tours of Marysville Getchell High School site

Marysville Getchell High School, home of the Chargers, and new school for 1,600 Marysville students, will open its doors this fall … one year earlier than anticipated…and on budget. Nearly 100 workers have been on the site daily to complete the project and responsible oversight has save thousands of tax payer’s dollars. Project teams have worked diligently to meet and exceed deadlines.

The district is now offering opportunities to the public to take a tour of the new Marysville Getchell High School site. Tours are scheduled Saturday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. via shuttle bus from Cedarcrest Middle School located at 6400 88th Street NE. There is no public access at the site. The shuttle bus will depart from Cedarcrest Middle School for tours starting at 9 a.m. and will be held on the hour every hour through 2 p.m.

The high school design supports learning and has won several awards – national and international – for its focus on flexible learning spaces. Each building reflects the theme of a different school. Four schools will share the campus and will prepare students for graduation and offer college prep classes. The buildings meet energy standards and have won grants for energy conservation. The green design of the campus – inside and out – preserves the environment and protects natural habitats.

The school gym will seat up to 900 spectators and be host to sport competitions such as basketball, wrestling, and volleyball. The gym also features a running track on the top floor. An outdoor physical education complex will support competition track, softball, tennis, and soccer. Football practices will occur on site with varsity games held at Quil Ceda Stadium.
