Make history by getting a Marysville museum brick

MARYSVILLE – If you've ever wanted to make history, now is your chance.

MARYSVILLE – If you’ve ever wanted to make history, now is your chance.

The new Marysville museum, which is set to open in about two months, is selling bricks as a fund-raiser. You can put your names and a special date on the brick. Those bricks will be placed around the new museum so visitors can see them on the “Historians Walkway.” Bricks are sold in two sizes: the smaller one is $100, the larger one $150.

Money raised will go to finish the museum.

The facility is being completed with some impressive displays:

•A doll collection made by Betty Berger of famous stars like John Wayne, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe.

•An old auto dealership sponsored by Roy Robinson Chevrolet of Marysville.

•A church, City Hall, pharmacy, bank and telephone office.

•Four telephones ranging from 1892 to 1911.

•A Superman-style telephone booth.

•Three racks of historic Marysville photographs.

•An ink drawing made by the son of the founder of the city of Marysville.

•A document signed by the first mayor of the city, Swinnerton, that incorporated the city by a 52-16 vote on March 12, 1891.

Historian Ken Cage said the displays inside the outer shells will change.

“People will discover the storefront is an exhibit in itself,” he said.

Cage said at the entrance to the museum will be a library and gift shop, where calendars, books, videos and charms can be purchased.

He and his wife, Ethel, talked about a stained-glass window they purchased.

“I did my song and dance and told my sob story about the museum” and talked the person into selling it, Cage joked.
