MARYSVILLE – “Disney’s The Little Mermaid: The Broadway Musical” will be performed at Marysville-Pilchuck High School’s auditorum April 28-30 and Mary 5-7.

The M-PHS Drama Club is putting on one of the first high school productions ever of the play at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Tickets, only available at the door, are $10 for adults and $8 for students with ASB cards and senior citizens.

The musical is based on the 1989 Disney classic cartoon film, which was based on the 1837 fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Favorite songs include, “Under the Sea” and “Kiss the Girl.”

The story follows mermaid princess Ariel, who is fascinated by the world and lives of the people on dry land and longs to someday join them, though her father, King Triton forbids contact with the human world.

When she falls in love with human Prince Eric from afar, she makes a deal with her father’s sister and enemy Ursula. Ariel is transformed into a human and may remain so if she wins the kiss of true love from her prince within three days. Even more challenging is that Ariel exchanged her voice for the opportunity. Her dangerous mission leads to a showdown between good and evil forces that only love can remedy.

Starring as Ariel and Eric are M-P’s Jessica Hamilton and Skylar van der Putten. The cast is a mix of M-P and Marysville-Getchell students including: Marshall Taylor Smelser IV as Scuttle, Kenna Goodwin as Sebastian, Chloe Larsen as Flounder, Haley Ries (who also choreographed) as Ursula and Mallory Ford as Grimsby.

Other cast members include: Nathaniel Roth, Elizabeth Price, Emmaline Savidge, Ricky Hoffman, Laura Koty, Cohleen-Raye Villejoo, Megan White, Maigan Theders, Denise Jacobsen, Victoria Willey, Jeramie Meador, Nate Ramsey, Tariq Witt, Ashlyn Stelter, Kaitlyn Norris, Makayla Rosander, Cheri Loertscher, Kaliya Moen and Echo Crossland.

The musical is directed by M-P teacher Roy Klementsen, the orchestra is led by M-P teacher Brian Kesler with fellow teacher Dale Ayotte on keyboards. Students in the pit band include: Ammon Shurtz, Bethany Nelson, Katie Strough, Michael Reeves, Nolan Mongar, Loren Anderson, Cameron Yund, Bre Sarff, Dean Mitchell, Logan Plant, Jake Howat, Isaac Honeyman and Nicole Mass. Up to 20 students will be helping with stage crew, lights, sound and other roles.
