MARYSVILLE — Stanwood senior Karsten Chaplik made a three-pointer at the buzzer in overtime as the Spartans beat host Marysville-Pilchuck 69-66 Feb. 10.

Stanwood, 10-0, won the Wesco 3A North title as a result. M-P dropped to 8-2 in league, 15-5 overall.

The 6-foot-4 Chaplik scored 29 points.

Stanwood led by as many as 11 in the second half. But M-P senior Michael Painter, who had 30 points, kept the Tomahawks close. M-P’s Nate Heckendorf made a layin with 6.9 seconds left but was called for a charge, sending the game into overtime.

The Spartans, who have won 11 straight, will have the top seed and M-P the third spot as the 3A District 1 tournament begins Saturday.

Josh Bevan scored 13 for M-P. Bryce Juneau added 11 points, and Heckendorf grabbed 13 rebounds.
