ARLINGTON A talented outdoor scenic photographer who retired from the commercial sales division of Multiple Zones Inc., a company that sells computer software and hardware via the Internet and by phone nation wide, Kent Baker will share his photography and software knowledge with the community in a four-session class on the digital darkroom. Jan. 5, 5, 10 and 11.
I was selling to schools in the Midwest from Southern California, Baker said adding he moved his family to Woodinville in 1978 and stayed there until 1999 when he moved to Marysville for retirement. Three years after that they moved to a bigger house in Arlington to make room for his mother-in-law.
An active member of the Arlington Arts Council and the Stanwood-Camano Art Guild, Baker shows his work at many local art fairs, including Art by the Bay in the Summer and at the recent North Arlington Studio Tour.
Baker taught a one-session class on digital photography last year, exploring the interest for a longer, in-depth class.
His 8-hour class, which covers the fundamentals of editing, correcting, retouching and enhancing digital photos, runs from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, Jan. 4, 5, 10 and 11 in the Community Room of the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, at 18513 59th Ave. N.E. in Arlington.
Baker is also an avid genealogist and will offer a class on genealogy later in January.
Topics covered by Baker range from the first step of getting the image to basic corrections, correction layers, color corrections, retouching, saving and printing. Baker will answer critical questions like, how sharp is sharp enough? The latest version of Photoshop Elements will be used. Growing a family tree
Bakers class on genealogy features use of the software, Family Tree Maker 2006 and includes the fundamentals of genealogy research to get beginners started on researching family history.
We will discuss the various uses of family history. Ill have an assortment of handouts and there will be a lot of class discussion during the course, said Baker.
The genealogy class is $40 and runs from 7-9 p.m. on Fridays, Jan 12, 19 and 26.
