MARYSVILLE – Free logging shows, concerts and a fireworks show are just part of the fun planned to celebrate Marysville’s 125th birthday this weekend.

The event will feature events that look back at the history of the city, along with looking ahead to the future.

“Marysville has come a long way in 125 years,” Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring said. “This weekend of events is a great way to showcase the people and industries that built our community, and look ahead at the opportunities we have in the coming years.”

Participants will go back in time Saturday, March 19. Artisans will display period arts and crafts, including bow-and-arrow making, whittling and woodcrafts, cheesemaking and more.

Kids will have the chance to participate in period crafts as well, making beaded bracelets, crafting toys out of clothespins and trying their hand at pointillism painting.

Turn-of-the-century demonstrations, food trucks, photo booth, about 30 vendors, a pie-eating contest, Marysville Rotary Log Float Raffle and the Kiwanis Beer and Wine Garden will be part of the festivities.

Whitewall Brewing Co. in Marysville has made a special beer for the occasion. Owners Sean Wallner and Aaron Wight said since Marysville was a logging town 125 years ago the brew has a flavor of Spanish cedar and cherry smoked malt.

Highlighting the events at Ebey Waterfront Park will be West Coast Lumberjack Shows at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Concerts will take place at 2:30 p.m. with Conner Worley and 5:30 p.m. with Tiller’s Folley.

A fireworks show will take place at dusk, around 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s events are expected to cost the city $15,000 in 2016 Hotel-Motel tax funds.

Following the community celebration, Nehring will officially open the Marysville Opera House with a Mayor’s Gala celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20.

Tickets for that event are $20 and include entry to the Opera House, light refreshments and appetizers, and a live musical performance by the award-winning band Tiller’s Folly from Canada. Kiwanis also will sponsor a no-host bar.
