MARYSVILLE — Halloween celebrations will stretch across two nights in Marysville this year, as Jennings Memorial Park and Third Street in downtown Marysville both have fun and spooky events planned for a variety of ages.

Jennings Memorial Park will host its annual Teen Halloween Haunted Egg Hunt Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Pre-registration for ages 11-15 is appreciated, and the cost per person is $3. Participants are encouraged to dress up in costumes and bring bags to hold their eggs and flashlights.

The event is sponsored by Kung Fu 4 Kids, and will feature the Camp Fire USA Mega Club “Superstars” performing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” complete with costumes and zombie makeup.

Leslie Buell, leader of one of the local Mega Clubs, explained that the performance is part of Camp Fire’s pet food collection drive for the Marysville Community Food Bank.

“Anyone who would like to perform along with us can do so if they bring a pet food item,” Buell said. “Dancing is a great creative outlet for these kids.”

The Marysville Downtown Merchants Association will follow this with their own ghoulish good time Oct. 31, as Third Street once again opens its doors to trick-or-treaters from 4-5 p.m.

“It’s been going on here forever,” said Mary Burns, owner of the BookWorks on Third Street, and one of the downtown Marysville merchants involved in the event each year. “All the participating merchants put pumpkins in their windows, and a lot of us dress up. We’ll be giving good treats and no tricks,” she laughed.
