EVERETT — Murder and robbery suspect James Fryberg was ordered held on $2 million bail March 16.

Fryberg, a Tulalip resident, is accused of the second-degree murder 15-month-old Damoniko Ashby in May of last year, and of first-degree robbery on March 9, for allegedly telling employees of the Haggen Pharmacy in the 3700 block of 88th Street in Marysville that he had a gun, to steal hundreds of prescription painkillers.

Fryberg, 21, appeared March 16 in both Snohomish County Superior Court and Everett District Court. In the latter, a judge found probable cause to hold Fryberg on suspicion of robbery.

After Fryberg, who was out of custody on bail, failed to appear at a March 9 hearing related to his pending murder charge, his bail was increased to $1 million. Later that afternoon, he allegedly robbed the pharmacy, and the Marysville and Tulalip Tribal police departments began working together to locate him.

On the evening of March 11, the two police departments received several anonymous tips that led them to a remote, undeveloped area northwest of Quil Ceda Village. The Marysville Man Tracking Team, K-9 Unit and detectives teamed up with Tulalip Tribal officers and detectives to search the area until darkness and rain ended the search.

With additional information developed by both departments, the Marysville Man Tracking Team located Fryberg on the afternoon of March 12, on an abandoned logging road, and discovered his camp in the woods.

Fryberg was taken into custody without incident and arrested for the outstanding warrant and the robbery charge, and was booked later that evening into Snohomish County Jail.

“Thanks to the combined efforts of the two agencies and the two communities a dangerous felon is in custody and the community is safer,” Marysville Police Cmdr. Ralph Krusey said.
