EVERETT One of the pre-eminent gospel choirs in the world, which has performed for the likes of Nelson Mandela the Harlem Gospel Choir will perform at the Everett Civic Auditorium, at 2415 Colby Ave. in Everett Jan. 30.
Presented by the Everett Community Colleges 2007 Artist and Lecture Series, the free performance begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The choir has taveled the globe as Harlems Ambassadors, sharing their joy of faith through music and raising funds for charities for children.
The Harlem Gospel Choir was founded in 1986 by Allen Bailey, who got the idea for the choir while attending a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the renowned Cotton Club in Harlem. The choir is a gathering of the finest singers and musicians from various black churches in Harlem.
Through its music and dynamic performance, the choir aims to create a better understanding of the African-American culture and the inspirational music as it relates to the black church.
The theme of every performance is bringing people and nations together and giving something back.
