MARYSVILLE The Mormons will have their helping hands out in force the afternoon of Oct. 27 when they scour neighborhoods seeking donations for local food banks.
About 300 volunteers from Stanwood to Marysville will be hitting the bricks to collect about 20,000 pounds of donations. They will be going door-to-door in addition to staffing collection barrels are local grocery stores, where shoppers can pick up a shopping list of items needed and then donate them when they head to the parking lot.
The Marysville Stake of the LDS church started the Mormon Helping Hands to reach out into the community and give something back at the same time, according to media specialist Meledie Knopf.
She said workers will be wearing bright yellow vests so people will know what they are about, as well as for safety reasons.
Its really a huge undertaking, Knopf said.
The collection will occur from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, and Knopf is hoping people will stock up before then.
