MARYSVILLE — Friday, Oct. 14, will mark a furlough day for Marysville teachers and an early release day for students.

Because the state Legislature cut teacher salaries by 1.9 percent, this day will allow teachers to work fewer hours, and thereby receive less pay, in the same way as state and county employees.

Elementary school students will be dismissed at 11:25 a.m., while Cedarcrest, Totem and Marysville middle school students will be dismissed at 10:45 a.m. and 10th Street students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m.

High school students will be dismissed at 9:50 a.m. at the Marysville Getchell campus, 10:10 a.m. at the Marysville-Pilchuck campus, 10:30 a.m. at the Arts & Technology and Heritage campus, and 9:55 a.m. at Marysville Mountain View High School.

Special education preschool and ECEAP students will have no classes on Oct. 14.

Because the state did not allow schools to shorten the school year, the Marysville School District has built seven furlough days into the school year.

Students who normally ride the bus to school will ride the bus on furlough days with the same routes.

Marysville schools will still provide 180 days of school and 1,000 hours of instruction, as required by the state.
