TULALIP – At approximately 8:30 p.m., on Dec. 22, Marysville Fire District crews were dispatched to reports of a residential fire in the 6400 block of 14th Avenue NE. The first arriving crew found a fully involved single-family residence with attached garage. Crews, who were defensively fighting this fire, faced a couple of challenges. There were two large propane tanks (100 and 150 gallons) close to the home along with several smaller tanks. In addition, the water supply was limited so water was brought to the scene by tenders.

There were no injuries reported.

The residents who were home were able to get out safely. They had five cats, two dogs and several birds. The birds did not survive, but they think the rest of the animals were able to escape. Red Cross is assisting the family of eight.

According to Kristen Thorstenson, MFD public education specialist/public Iiformation officer, four engine companies, three tenders, one ladder truck, one medic unit, one air unit and several command vehicles were called to the scene. Approximately 30 emergency crew members responded. Mutual aid was provided by Tulalip Bay Fire, Lake Stevens Fire and Fire District 19 (Silvana).

Tulalip Police Department and Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office are conducting the investigation into cause. Damage to the structure and contents was a total loss and is estimated to be $200,000.
