MARYSVILLE – A felon wanted for kidnapping was arrested Oct. 13 after racing through Marysville in a stolen sports car with Marysville police giving chase.

The 34-year-old Coupeville man is wanted by the state Department of Corrections on a kidnapping conviction. The man told police he fled because he didn’t want to go back to prison. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett for possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding a police officer.

The incident started at about 4:30 p.m. when a Marysville officer patrolling on Cedar Avenue did a check on a car and found out it was stolen in Pierce County.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, but when the car pulled over two passengers suddenly jumped out and fled on foot near the Marysville Boys and Girls Club.

The driver sped off, attempting to elude the officer.

Because of the danger of the chase, the officer stopped the pursuit, police spokesman Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux says in a report.

Shortly after that, the car drove by another Marysville officer, who was able to deploy spike strips. The spikes flattened the tires on the sports car, and officers again started a pursuit.

The felon drove into a residential area near the Marysville YMCA, left the stolen car and fled on foot. Officers were able to find and arrest him.

The two passengers were questioned and released.
