On Friday, Aug. 31, the fair will honor the men and women of the Military.
That is, the members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy. Historically, Aug. 31 has been the fairs day to remember the people who have enlisted to protect our rights, our lives. In 2007, the fair maintains that tradition especially as it stands with so many of these men and women serving abroad, putting their lives on the line every day.
The fair is also continuing with a newer tradition, as well, by dedicating this day to those people who serve us daily closer to home the collective group titled Emergency Services Personnel. This set is made up of our law enforcement; firefighters; EMTs; National Guard units; search and rescue; and others. These are the first responders. These are the people who have been trained to manage tragic situations and are on-site to control the damage. How many times have you had to call 9-1-1 for help and when your emergency had been handled and time has passed, you thought to take a moment to thank your rescuer. Well, this is the fairs way to say thank you on behalf of the community.
This day, all military personnel and all emergency services personnel are invited to the fair with free gate admission. Thank you to all of our men and women in uniform and please be sure to attend the events planned to celebrate Armed Forces Day: A Tribute to America by Buck and Elizabeth; The Armed Forces Day Ceremony at 2 p.m.; and the patriotic music played by the Navy Band Northwest in concert at the Courtyard Stage (3 p.m.) please check your daily schedules for locations.
