MARYSVILLE – The Marysville-Pilchuck High School booster club wants to help a local family who lost their mother to breast cancer three weeks ago.

MPHS head volleyball coach Brittany Fitzmaurice said a fund-raiser will take place Oct. 22 called “Dig for the Cure.”

Money raised will help pay for medical costs and funeral expenses for the family. The woman’s daughter attends MPHS and the son Marysville Getchell High School.

The fund-raiser will take place at the volleyball game between the two schools at MPHS Thursday night at 7.

In previous years, money raised went to a larger foundation for breast cancer research, Fitzmaurice said.

“We will be holding a fundraiser called ‘Miracle Minute’ in the middle of the match, where some of our parents will bring buckets around the gym for donations for the family,” Fitzmaurice said. “The kids are working hard to make sure we have a good turnout so we can support this family as much as possible.”

Anyone who would like to donate but can’t make the event can email mpvarsityvolleyball@yahoo.com or call Fitzmaurice at 425-343-6703.
