Driver critically injured in head-on crash near State, 116th in Marysville

MARYSVILLE – Marysville police are investigating a near head-on collision Tuesday morning that left one driver hospitalized in critical condition.

Police responded to the crash at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 11700 block of State Avenue.

The incident occurred when a Honda sedan headed north on State and a southbound Toyota van turning east into a business parking collided in the northbound lanes, police said.

Marysville Fire Department crews extracted a 26-year-old Granite Falls man from the Honda and transported him to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with critical injuries requiring surgery.

The van driver, 28, of Stanwood, was taken to the same hospital for evaluation. He was later released. No passengers were in either vehicle.

Collision investigators determined that the Honda was traveling behind another vehicle in the inside lane of State approaching 116th Street NE, and that speed was a factor at the time of the crash.

The incident closed State near 116th for three hours during peak commuter traffic while police investigated.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact the Marysville Police Department Collision Investigation Unit at 360-363-8300.
